Marilyn D. Childers, 86 of Arkansas City died, Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. The Reverend Betty Glover will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Marilyn was born June 15, 1924 to Fred and Frances Davis in Tallahassee, FL. She attended High School in Coral Gables, FL and later attended Florida State University. On February 5, 1944 she married Robert L. Childers. Marilyn was a homemaker and active member of the community. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and Altar Guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Sigma Kappa Sorority, PEO chapter BO, SCKMC Auxiliary, Presbyterian Manor Board, USD 470 School Board of Education, Cowley County Health Department Advisory Board, Red Cross Volunteer and the Election Board. Marilyn is survived by her son, Robert Childers and wife Marcia, of Arkansas City; grandchildren, Kipley Parrish and husband Amir Vojdani of Sacramento, CA, Cash Parrish and wife Jennifer of Seymour, TX, Erin Boatman of Tyro, KS, James Childers of Arkansas City, Amanda Shuler and husband Marshall of Greenville, SC, Mark Stedry and wife Lynnette of Ballston Spa, NY, Todd Stedry and wife Beth of Leawood, KS, Scott Stedry and wife Jennifer of Eudora, KS, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Hazel Holly; son, Gordon Childers and daughter, Jean Anne Parrish. A memorial has been established with the South Central Kansas Medical Center to assist with the "Memorial Garden." Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
