Marilyn J. Pritchard of Naples, FL succumbed to pancreatic cancer and its complications at Avow Hospice, Naples on July 15, 2013.
Born in Danville, IL on June 10, 1939, Marilyn was the eldest child of Harry and Edna Coopersmith. Her parents and brother, Gary predeceased her. She is survived by Tom, her husband of 45 years; sister, Janet Nolan and her husband, Michael of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Nancy Coopersmith; nephews, Matt and Ken; and Ken's children, Max and Allison, all of Helena, MT. Marilyn is also survived by Alice and Al Macdonald of Naples. Alice has been friend and guardian angel for fifty years. In addition, Marilyn is survived by several special long-time friends in the DC area and many very good friends, too numerous to list, at Kensington in Naples.
Marilyn graduated from Danville High in 1957 as valedictorian and went on to Purdue where she received an MS in Math and was voted Most Outstanding Independent Woman on campus. Innately talented in math, language and personal interactions, her career included teaching math and statistics at Syracuse University, then becoming a software professional there and at IBM. At STSC, a software company in Rockville, MD, she was tech writer and editor, data center manager, project manager for an IPO, and executive.
Aside from work, Marilyn enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband, Tom and availing herself of the wonderful lifestyle and amenities of the DC area and Naples, FL. However, perhaps her most rewarding pleasure was being godmother and surrogate grandparent to Natalie and Erica Abrams and later, to their older sister, Rachel Wasserman.
Both at work and in private life, Marilyn was simply admired and beloved by all who knew her.
