Marion (Dillingham) Booth Rossiter-Smith, 85, a longtime resident of Grafton MA, passed away October 26, 2011 in Hingham. Marion was born Dec. 7, 1925 in Fairhaven, MA, the daughter of Charles Dillingham Booth and Madeline Hoxie Booth. She graduated from Fairhaven High School, Class of 1943, and began working in the office of Wamsutta Mills prior to graduation. She met her future husband Art Rossiter on a blind date; they became engaged on Horseneck Beach, and were married in December, 1946. They moved to Grafton in 1952, first to Pigeon Hill, then off North Street to a house they designed themselves where Marion lived until the 1990's. Marion moved to the West Palm Beach area in Florida where she was active in the First Congregational Church of Lake Worth. In 2008 she moved back to Massachusetts. Marion supported her husband Art as he built his business, was proud to be a homemaker, was a Girl Scout Leader for several years, and was active in her church and the P.T.A. In addition, she learned to transcribe books into Braille, transcribing many books over the years. She loved to travel, sing, play the piano, knit, sew, read, and have a glass of wine and cheez-its every evening before dinner. Even after her sight was severely hampered due to macular degeneration she knit afghans for nursing home residents. Among her favorite memories are the times spent with her special group of friends in Grafton, being with her family, time in Westport MA at the family cottage, driving a succession of convertibles (including two Willys Jeepsters, a turquoise Corvair and a turquoise Mustang), and being a beach bum. She leaves her husband Sanderson Smith; her sister-in-law Genevieve Booth of East Freetown MA, daughter Gail Leonard and husband Richard of Kittery ME, son Scott and wife Lois of Grafton MA, son Lee and wife Sherry of Denver CO; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Congregational Church on the Common in Grafton MA. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Marion & Arthur Rossiter Fund for the Evangelical Congregational Church c/o Greater Worcester Community Foundation, 370 Main Street, Worcester MA 01608 or the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown MA 02472. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton MA 01536.
