Marion Tonkin Hillard, 87, of Crawford Parkway, Portsmouth, VA, passed away September 5, 2011, in Midlothian, VA. A native of Portsmouth, VA, she was the widow of Major M. Hillard, Jr. She was a member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church and Monumental United Methodist Church in Portsmouth. She was also a member of the Portsmouth Junior League, the Portsmouth Women Club and the Garden Club of Virginia. She was an avid bridge and Mah Jong player. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Jewitt Hillard of Williamsburg, VA; son, Major M. Hillard, III and wife Cathy of Midlothian, VA; two grandsons, Major M. Hillard, IV and Cameron W. Hillard, both of Midlothian, VA; and a nephew, David H. Shaw of Chesapeake, VA. A graveside service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, VA with Rev. Jonathan Bennett officiating. Snellings Funeral Home, 1144 George Washington Highway, North, Chesapeake, VA 23323 is handling the arrangements.
