MARSHA GAIL BROOKS
Marsha Gail Brooks, a resident of Midway, WV passed away on October 3, 2011 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Mrs. Brooks was born July 12, 1953 in Raleigh General Hospital to the late Rev. Edgar Roy Richards and Evelyn Christine Richards.
Marsha graduated from Sophia High School and pursued a singing career with the gospel quartet group, "The Swordsmen". Marsha loved music and was a talented and natural pianist and singer. She loved to sing and was often invited to sing at church events throughout West Virginia. Every time she attended church, she was always asked to sing.
Marsha worked at Hills Department Store where she was employed for over 20 years. In the later part of her life she devoted 20 years to H&R Block where she ended up managing 2 stores before her health conditions stopped her service.
Marsha was a devoted Christian and a lady of Faith. She grew to know and love the Lord at an early age as a child and is known for bringing her Mother and Father to church during a Home Coming event at Sophia Freewill Baptist Church. Her father later became one of the best known ministers in Raleigh County. She was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church, located in Bolt, WV and also played the piano at Princewick Missionary Baptist Church.
Marsha was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 38 years, Rev. Roy Brooks; her only son, Jonathan David Brooks (who was the apple of her eye); her brothers, Michael Roy Richards of Pikeville, KY, Jeffrey Richards of Miramar, FL, and Michael Roy Richards, II of Sophia.
Marsha loved her friends and would do anything for anyone. Marsha did not have much but she has a heart of Gold and a love larger than Life itself. Marsha loved cats and her favorite was "Little Binky", she loved that cat.
Marsha is now singing and playing the piano for her father, Rev. Edgar Richards and her long time friends and mentor Don Hutchinson from the "Swordsmen Quartet".
Services will be held 11:00AM Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. David Cook and Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Following the services Marsha will be laid to rest at Hot Coal Cemetery, Sophia.
Friends may gather with the family from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday, October 7, 2011 at the funeral home.
Condolences may be sent to Rev. Roy Brooks at PO Box 1101 Sophia WV 25921.
