Martin A. Mueller, age 96, of French Lick, Ind., passed away at 3:40 AM, Friday, November 14, 2008, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County in Paoli, Ind.
Marty was born on February 25, 1912 to the late Martin Mueller and the late Sophia (Kasner) Mueller. He married Irene Scarlett in 1933 and she preceded him in death in 1996.
Marty was a 1930 graduate of West Baden High School and where he had been the captain of his basketball team. He also was the oldest living alumni of West Baden High School. He was a self employed horse trainer who had a the reputation of being the "Horseman's Horseman - the man with the Golden Hands." Marty started working before he was 10 years old for L.S. Dickey with the American Saddle Horses. He was respected as one of the the top Horse Trainers and for sharing his methods with others, especially his "Boys and Girl," who are honoring him to be his pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. He was a member of the United Professional Horsemen's Association, and had been inducted into the National American Saddle Bred Association Hall of Fame, the Indiana Saddle State Hall of Fame, and he had been the fourth person who was awarded the American Saddle Horse Lifetime Achievement Award. Marty had lived in Ohio, California, Missouri, Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, Oregon, as well as Canada.

Arrangements are being handled by T.L. Pinnick Mortuary, 785 South Bears Bend Road, French Lick, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, November 16, 2008 and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM Monday, November 17, 2008. Funeral service will be at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary at 10:00 AM Monday, November 17, 2008, with Rev. Terry L. Pinnick officiating. Interment will be at Ames Chapel Cemetery in Paoli, Ind.
