Martin B. Mabee, 97, of Lafayette, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, October 19, 2012, at home. Born in Lafayette, Mr. Mabee was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. He worked at Picatinny Arsenal for 22 years before his retirement in 1972. A member of the Lafayette Federated Church, Mr. Mabee was a member of the Lafayette Fire Department for 66 years and a member of Kittatinny Lodge in Branchville. The son of the late Frank A. and Anna Couse Mabee, Mr. Mabee is survived by his wife of 76 years, Grace M. Mabee; his son, Dennis Mabee and wife, Susan, of Cheshire, Connecticut; his daughter, Lillian L. Kinney and husband, Jim, of Newton; nine grandchildren; and ten grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Lafayette Federated Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Memorial donations may be made to the Mabee House, Lafayette Preservation, PO Box 702, Lafayette, NJ 07848.
