Marvin D. Hein, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away of leukemia on Sunday, December 5, 2010 in West Jordan, Utah. He was born on August 1, 1926 in Lafayette, Colorado to Alvin R. and Katherine Sims Hein. He married his sweetheart, Shirley Canning on January 27, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Together they raised a daughter and twin sons. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He Graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Utah State University. His life’s work was as an engineer on many significant projects throughout the western U.S. He served faithfully in many LDS Church callings. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, serving others, studying the scriptures, collecting blue M&Ms with a granddaughter, and attending all of his grandchildren’s sports, theater and musical events.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, and his brother Leland. He is survived by his three children – Shirla (Bryan) Alexander, Ron (Marian) Hein, and Don (Lee Ann) Hein. He is also survived by his sister Wilma, his brothers Howard and Robert, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 10 at the Mt. Olympus 9th Ward (4625 S. Lanark Rd. (3315 E), Holladay, UT). Viewings will be held on Thursday, December 9, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Holladay-Cottonwood Memorial Mortuary (4670 S. Highland Dr. in Salt Lake City); and on Friday, December 10 at 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Mt. Olympus 9th Ward immediately preceding the funeral. Interment with military honors will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City) following the funeral.
