Marvin Lee Proffitt

Marvin Lee Proffitt, 85, of Midway went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
Born October 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Monroe and Myrtle Wagoner Proffitt.
Marvin was a graduate of Mark Twain High School and a member of the VFW Post 4469, Beckley, WV. He retired in October 1982 from Slab Fork Coal, Inc. with 34 years of service. Marvin served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. William H. McGuffey. He was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church, Midway, WV where he proudly served as a Deacon. He was involved in the Bible Ministry and took part in the mission trip to Haiti.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by 2 stillborn daughters; sister Ruby Sturgill; 5 brothers, Paul, James, Roby, John and Elmer Proffitt.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 63 years, Macie Proffitt of Midway and many special nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 12 o'clock noon, Friday, October 7, 2011 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Pat Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Pallbearers will be nephew Alan Proffitt, Hilltop Church Members, Ken Lilly, Josh Conaway, Dallas Cochran, David Cochran, Terry McKinney and Tim Dillon.
Friends may gather with the family Friday from 11 – 12 at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorials may be made to Hilltop Baptist Church or to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
