WILLMAR, MN.

Marvin Leo Burns, age 92, of Willmar and formerly of Raymond, died Sunday afternoon, March 18, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 21, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. There is no reviewal or visitation. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Marvin was born on February 18, 1915, in Raymond, Minnesota, the son of Daniel and Margaret (Burr) Burns. He grew up and received his education in Raymond and Muscatine, Iowa, and at the age of 15 returned to the Raymond community. On March 11, 1941, Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a gunner aboard a troop transport ship throughout the Pacific, Australia and India. He returned to the U.S. and on February 5, 1944 was married to Nancy Jean Richards. He returned to service in October of 1944 with the 304th Infantry Division and 76th Battalion serving in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Marvin returned to the Raymond community and was employed as a mechanic for over 22 years with Carlson and Haug. He was a past member of the Raymond United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. and American Legion Post, and the Raymond Sportsman Club where he taught gun safety training for many years. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, snowmobiles and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Willmar; one daughter, Luana (and Carl) Brandt of Grand Marais; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one sister, Evelyn Phillips of Muscatine, IA., besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, John, Daniel, Ralph, Shermon and Clarence and five sisters, Vida, Julie, Violet, Lillian abd Goldie.
