Mary Ann Stuart, 63 of Granite City passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at her home with her family by her side. Mary was born on February 14, 1949 in Granite City. She was a life long educator teaching in the Granite City School District as an Elementary Teacher. Mary started as a school secretary for St. Margaret & Mary Catholic School and then went on to teach at various catholic schools in the metro area. She loved children and enjoyed watching them learn. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and in her free time enjoyed scrapbooking, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for the love of her family and the many special times shared together. She is survived by and will be missed by her husband; Barry Stuart, whom she married on April 21, 1969; daughters, Michelle Stuart of Hermann, MO, Suzanne & (Dan) Drury of Festus, MO; grandchildren, Emily Stuart of Hermann, MO, Haley Drury of Festus, MO, Daniel Drury of Festus, MO; brothers, John Washenko, Michael Washenko; sisters, Barbara Hanson, Geraldine Green, Theresa Petersen, Laura Washenko, Elizabeth Stern, Josephine Washenko-Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents; John & Mary (Belusko) Washenko. Friends may call on Friday, February 1, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:15 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave. in Granite City with Fr. Jeff Holtman officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
