Mary Cohen of Kingston died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Golden Hill Health Care Facility. She was 99. She was born in Brooklyn on April 16, 1910, a daughter of the late Harry and Ida Munitz Schwartz. A longtime Kingston resident, she married Frank Bernard Cohen in 1945. Together, they owned and operated Frank's Sport and Ski Shop on North Front Street, Uptown Kingston from 1946 until retirement in 1985. Mary also worked, as a legal secretary, for Henry Klein, Kingston. A member of Congregation Agudas Achim, she belonged to the Sisterhood. She was a member of Hadassah. Her husband Frank Cohen died April 30, 1990; two sisters Sylvia Picker and Anna Kleinman and one brother Irving Schwartz all died previously. Adored mother of Shirley B. Luongo of Myrtle Beach, SC and Dr. Joseph Cohen and his wife Barbara of Kingston; loving grandmother of Stephanie Luongo, Allison Gechtman; Jaime Klein and Dr. Beth Cohen; cherished great grandmother of Ava, Harrison and Macy Crawford, Hudson Gechtman, Anna and Benjamin Klein, and Isaac Gerow; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Rabbi Yael Romer will officiate. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery, Rabbi Yitzcok Hecht will officiate. Shiva will be observed at the residence of Joe and Barbara Cohen on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. with services each night at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Agudas Achim, POB 3573, Kingston, NY 12402 or Temple Emanuel, 243 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401.
