Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mary F. Cronkleton, 72, a resident of Davenport will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 East Rusholme Street, Davenport. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove, Iowa.
Visitation will be Sunday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. There will be additional visitation Monday in the Gathering Space at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
Mary died peacefully Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center West Central Park, Davenport, following an extended illness.
Mary Frances Freund was born March 10, 1938 in Davenport, a daughter of Leo Henry and Marie Catherine (Meyer) Freund. She was a 1955 graduate of the former Immaculate Conception Academy.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence Paul Cronkleton on May 13, 1961. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2001.
She retired from the Montgomery County Maryland school system as a bus driver. She had previously been employed by the Davenport School System busing service as well. In earlier years she was employed by the Bendix Corporation and International Harvester.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She especially cherished the friendship and camaraderie she shared with her ICA classmates at their monthly luncheon gatherings.
She found great peace in nature and was an advocate for all of God’s creatures. She would always go out of her way to provide comfort to all animals and pets.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul the Apostle Church, Sisters of Charity BVM – Dubuque, or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Survivors include sons, John F. Cronkleton, Davenport and Paul A. Cronkleton, Boyds, Maryland; grandchildren, Heather and Ian, a sister, Sr. Genevieve Freund, BVM, Davenport and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Larry, her parents also preceded her in death. May they rest in peace.
