Newfane - Mary DeVeau Rose, 84, of 33 Wildwood Acres Road, Newfane, VT died at The Thompson House on September 28th, 2011 surrounded by her family, following a brief illness. Mary was born on November 26th, 1926 in Bridgeport, CT, the daughter of George W. and Theresa (Englemann) DeVeau. She grew up in North Guilford and Guilford, CT. She graduated from Guilford High School in 1945. She worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company for many years. On August 16th, 1952 she married George A. Rose Jr. of East Haven, CT. In 1969 she moved to Newfane, VT with her family. Mary worked for the Brattleboro Retreat for many years, also different school settings in the area. One of her favorites was working as a teacher at Little Valley Nursery School in Townshend, VT. She also was a volunteer for the RSVP. Mary enjoyed working in her flower beds, feeding the birds and loved being with her dogs. Survivors include a son, George A. Rose III of Townshend, VT, a daughter, Mary Ann Runge of Newfane, VT, four grandchildren; Joseph Runge of Dalton, MA, Tavis Rose of Brattleboro, VT, Ashley Rose of Brattleboro, VT, Catherine Runge of Newfane, VT and one great granddaughter, Scarlett Rose of Brattleboro, VT. Her grandchildren and great grandchild were her greatest joy. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Reverend William DeVeau, her husband, George A. Rose Jr., and two brothers, George A. DeVeau and Emil J. DeVeau and a nephew, Emil DeVeau Jr. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October 4th, 2011 at 10:00am, at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Richard O'Donnell, V.F., pastor, celebrant. Her ashes will be placed next to her twin brother in St. Michaels Parish Cemetery. In accordance to Mary's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
