Graveside services for Mary Geraldine (Jerry) Anderson, age 88, of Maumelle will be held Saturday, November 12th, at Pine Crest Cemetery in Little Rock, at 3:00 in the afternoon with Rev. Scotty Karber. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m prior to the graveside service at Griffin-Leggett Funeral Home on 12th Street in Little Rock.
Jerry Culberson was born September 30, 1923, in Adona, AR., to Clifton and Nanette Culberson. Jerry grew up with her sister Anna and brother Dale. She loved to play basketball and played for Adona High School. After graduation she went on to play professional basketball for the Arkansas Red Heads . Her team, all sporting dyed or natural red hair, became so popular with the sports' crowds that the team hit the road and successfully challenged men's teams with their trick shots, athletic ability, and "hijinks." They played men's teams using men's rules and won seventy percent of their games. Playing with this team was one of Jerry's highlights in her life.
She later met her soul mate while living in downtown Little Rock. George Anderson noticed her and whistled. A few days later they met at a diner where she was waiting on tables. He asked her out to a movie and the rest is history.
Jerry was called home November 10th, 2011. Her family is at peace knowing that she is doing what she loves best – cooking and, without a doubt, she is making the best meal the angels have ever tasted.
She lived most of her life in Little Rock where she took great pride in running the school cafeteria at Mabelvale Jr High and then later owning her own downtown restaurant – "Jerry's Hamburgers".
Proceeding her in death was husband George R. Anderson; mother, Nanette Culberson; father, Clifton Culberson; and brother Dale Culberson. She is survived by her sister: Anna Beaird of Little Rock; daughters: Donna Morrow of Maumelle, Charlotte Garlington and husband Roy of Cabot, and Janice Morley of Maumelle; grandchildren: Brandi Greer of Florida, Melissa Brown and husband Gary of Sheridan, Phillip Greer and wife Gretchen of Paragould, Kristen Burgeis and husband Billy of North Little Rock, and Katie Monhead and husband James of Little Rock; Great grandchildren: Brockton Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Dawson Greer, Payne Greer, Blakely Greer, Mia Greer, Landon Monhead, and Lakyn Monhead.
Pallbearers will be Robert Beaird, Dusty Beaird, Phillip Greer, Roy Garlington, Gary Brown, Billy Burgeis, James Monhead, and Brockton Brown. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association of Arkansas, 909 W. 2nd Street, Little Rock, AR 72201. To sign the online guestbook, go to www.griffinleggetthealeyroth.com.
