East Dummerston- Mary H. Bolster, 86, of Miller Road, a lifelong resident of Dummerston died early Friday morning, July 8, 2011 at Pine Heights with her family at her side following a period of declining health. Mrs. Bolster was born in Dummerston on July 5, 1925 the daughter of Merton and Hazel (Carr) Hazelton. She attended Dummerston schools and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of 1944. She went on to attend Keene Teachers College graduating with a degree in education in 1949. Mrs. Bolster's first teaching position was in Groton, Vermont before she relocated back to Dummerston where she was the last teacher to teach in a one room schoolhouse in Dummerston. With her husband, Mrs. Bolster established both Bolster Moving and Storage Company,(1950) and Bolster's Warehouse,(1956) the two family owned businesses that they operated for over 40 years. She retired in 1990 when the businesses were sold. Mrs. Bolster was a member of the Evening Star Grange in Dummerston for over 70 years and with her husband was a longtime member of Dummerston Congregational Church. Of her pastimes and interests she enjoyed BINGO, attending auctions as well as area sporting events that encompassed both local and regional competitions. She was an avid reader and also cherished time shared with her family. On June 17, 1950 at Dummerston Congregational Church she was married to Robert E. Bolster. Her husband of 57 years predeceased her in November of 2007. Survivors include, two sons, Philip Bolster and his wife Betty of Dummerston, Glen Bolster and his wife Jacquie of Essex Jct., two daughters, Sherry Amidon and husband Walter of Dummerston and Ellen Hellus and husband David also of Dummerston, one brother, Donald Hazelton and a sister, Carol Bessette both of Dummerston Center. Additionally she leaves eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great- grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial service in celebration of her life will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Dummerston Congregational Church with Rev. Susanna Griefen, pastor, officiating. Following the services a reception will be held in the church fellowship area. Burial will be in the Bolster family lot in Dummerston Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Bolster's name may be made to, The Dummerston Center Cemetery Association, in care of Mr. John Abel, 432 Schoolhouse Road, East Dummerston, Vermont 05346, or to, West Dummerston Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 40, West Dummerston, Vermont 05357.
