Mary Isabel (McInnis) McGillvray, age 92 of Stuart, FL and Woburn, MA passed away in Woodbridge, CT after a long illness. Mary was married to the late John McGillvray and is survived by her eight loving children: John McGillvray and wife Catherine and Anne Menassian of Virginia, Francis McGillvray and wife Joyce of MA, Marion Shetty and husband Mohadavan of CT, Jayne Roberts and husband George, Paul McGillvray and wife Kathleen, and June Moules and husband Thomas all of MA and Mildred Hill and husband Gerry of California. Mary also had twenty loving grandchildren.
Mary was born in Somerville, MA to the late Alan and Julia McInnis. She was one of eleven brothers and sisters. She is predeceased by brothers and sisters Donald, Francis, Allen, Theresa, William and Marion. She is survived by her sisters Rosalie Greene, Mildred Robertson and Earlene McInnis all of Stuart Fla. and her brother Robert McInnis of Boca Raton/Somerville MA. Also she is survived by her sister in law Margaret Greene of MA.
Mary was a registered nurse earning her nursing diploma from Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. One of her most memorable nursing experiences included working the night of and long hours after the historically tragic fire at the Coconut Grove nightclub in Boston. Mary was a World War II Veteran enlisting as a nurse in the Army Air Corps and serving at different bases stateside. After the war she went back to school and earned her Bachelor's degree in Nursing Education at Boston College graduating Magna Cum Laude from the school's first nursing class. Upon graduation she married John McGillvray her husband of over fifty years. While raising eight children, Mary began a successful career as an educator and administrator in Nursing at Lynn Hospital School of Nursing.
She went on to retire to Stuart, Florida and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her twenty grandchildren. Some of her fondest achievements and pleasures in life included: sending her eight children to college, watching her grandchildren grow and meeting and hearing about her former nursing students. She was a devoted Catholic, avid reader, and enjoyed discussing: religion, nursing and politics. She spent many hours reading and studying various religious authors and Saints. Some of her favorites were Mother Theresa, Sister Therese of Lisieux and Thomas Merton.

SERVICES: Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on January 18, 2012 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes Palm City Chapel with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on January 19, 2012 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Stuart. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City with military honors provided by the Patrick Air Force Base Honor Guard. The family will be also holding a Memorial Mass to celebrate Mary's life at St. Charles Church in Woburn MA at 10 am on February 4, 2012 with a brunch reception to follow at the Woburn Country Club.
