Mary Katherine Walton, age 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Her passing came at home where she was surrounded by her loving family. "Granny Kate" was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who loved life, treasured her family, and always put the needs of others first. She was a true southern belle whose bright smile and laughter, combined with her devotion to Christ, could warm any heart. Born in Springfield, TN on May 30, 1917 to Kate and Elmer Butte; she married William A. (Bill) Walton, and they shared 54 happy years together until he preceded her in death in 2001. She was a homemaker in every sense of the word, leading Girl Scout activities, cheering on Little League games, and actively serving in the Women's groups in her church. She was a 50 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. When Bill's work with Sandia National Labs brought the family to Albuquerque in 1965, they became members of St. Paul's Methodist Church, where they remained. Mary Kay was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband and son, William A. (Buddy) Walton III in 2010. Survivors include daughter, Kathy Dyer, daughter-in-law, Linda Walton of Texas; grandchildren, Julie Geldmacher (Clifton), Kimberly Jones (Timothy), Wesley Dyer (Chastity) of Albuquerque, and David Walton (Katie) of Texas; and the six great-grandchildren whom she adored, Tyler, Connor, Dylan, Ashlyn, Kellyn and Genesis. "Granny Kate" was the love of their lives. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mark Wesselman and the entire staff at Total Community Care (PACE). For the past 8 years they filled her days with joy and provided tender and compassionate care. She will be deeply missed by all who love her, but we know that we will reunite in days to come. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011 from 6-8p.m. at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 1:00 pm also at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery following services. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Mary Katherine's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, (donorservices@woundedwarriorproject.org.)
