Mary Love (Parks) Olsen March 13, 1922 ~ January 3, 2012 Funeral services for Mary Love (Parks) Olsen, 89, of Houston, and a former resident of Somerville, are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Somerville with Rev. Corby Brizendine and Rev. Todd Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Somerville. Mary Love was born March 13, 1922 in Somerville, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Redford) Parks. She attended school in Somerville and was a Cum Laude graduate of the Texas School of Business and received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Houston in l944. She was a gracious, loving generous, kind and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a caring and thoughtful friend who was always interested in the well-being of others. She was involved with her community and volunteered her time selflessly to charitable and civic organizations such as serving as President of the Board of Directors of Houston Baptist University and being one of the founders of the Women's Institute of Houston. She served as a volunteer of the Blue Bird Circle Resale Shop that benefits Neurological Research at Texas Children's Hospital; the Junior League of Houston; Harris County Republican Women; Texas Medical Women's Auxillary; President of Achievement Reward College of Scientists; Sunday School Teacher for Bellaire Presbyterian Church; Docent at Bayou Bend Museum in Houston, Scottish Heritage Society – Stoneham Family Reunion; as well as many other civic and charitable organizations. Mary Love's gentle and caring demeanor touched countless lives during her time on earth. God's servant has been called home. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Roy Warren Olsen, M.D.; her children, Mary Anne and Mark Ernst of College Station, Roy and Leslie Olsen of Seabrook, and Richard and Camille Olsen of Austin; a sister, Etta Grace Hulme of Arlington; grandchildren, Zach Ernst of Austin, Claire Olsen of Austin and Madeline Olsen of Austin, Meghan Edmondson, Kelsey Edmondson, both of Houston and Kaitlyn Edmondson of Seabrook; nieces and nephews, Kaye Hale, Helen Nichols, Charlie Hulme and John Hulme, all of Arlington. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
