Beloved mother, grandmother and sister Canandaigua-Mary Lucille White, age 81, of Jefferson Ave. passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Hospeace House in Naples. She is survived by three children, Gloria Jackson of New York City, Gertrude "Trudy" White Hamilton and Morris White (Patty Smith) both of Canandaigua; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Nora Williams of Arizona, Helen Jones of Georgia and Princess White of Geneva; companion, Elkanah D. Campbell; several god-children, including Edith Wormley; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris White, Sr. in 1979 and son, James White in 2001. Mrs. White was a community activist and an avid volunteer with the Gleaners Community Kitchen, the Ontario Arts Council and several other civic groups. She was instrumental in establishing a celebration of the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. held each year at the First Congregational Church in Canandaigua. She was a member of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Geneva and the International Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. White enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. Friends may call Thursday, March 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, March 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. Memorial contributions may be made to Agri-Business Child Development, 847 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308 or Bridges For Brain Injuries, 5297 Parkside Dr., Canandaigua, NY 14424.
