Mary Louise Cockrum-Pence-Milbradt-Miller was born October 22, 1927 in Kansas City, Kansas. Her family later moved to Topeka KS where she attended high school. She married Dale Pence in 1943 and soon after gave birth to their son, Dale Laverne. She and Pence shared a brief life together until after WWII. As a single mother, Mary found employment at Mount Sinai hospital; where she met Fred E Milbradt who she married in 1952. They eventually moved west to Southern California where her daughter, Cynthia Louise, was born in 1954. In 1960 Mary moved her family up north to what would become her beloved Northwestern Oregon, settling in Yamhill County on a mountain ranch just outside Sheridan. They moved to McMinnville in the mid 1960s to be closer to work. There she became a real estate broker. She owned and operated Oregon Pacific Realty. She sold the business very soon after the death of her son Dale who died in Viet Nam in 1967. In 1974 Mary moved to the Salem area where she lived for the next 28yeas. In that time she worked for the state of Oregon at the Dept. of Human Resources and later as a title examiner for the Dept. of Transportation. She changed her last name to Miller so as to have her own identity separate from her married names. She married Glen Andrews in 1980. They led had a full and active life together and had great affection for one another. They remodeled several homes for themselves and traveled the country until Glens death in 1992. Mary loved to travel and often took her family to visit relatives in Kansas and California stopping to see the roadside attractions and scenic views along the way. She developed an interest in RV travel and was on the road often with her husband Glen. She always kept up with the RV news long after those days were over for her. She loved Los Vegas and Reno and was no stranger to the slot machines there. She seemed her most care-free when in the casinos and she loved to share the excitement with her family and friends. She had a passion for plants and put together lovely backyard gardens. Her planting philosophy towards growing things was thrive or good-bye. This must have scared the wits out of her plants because they seemed to do very well. She loved to remodel, always taking on projects wherever she lived. Her remodels could be very ambitious; converting her last Salem area home into a duplex. It was a huge undertaking but she loved doing it. She had a need to be busy and busy she stayed She moved to Portland in 2002 to be closer to her daughter Cynthia and son-in-law, Mark. They bought a small NE Portland tri-plex where Mary herself lived, staying busy with projects as the years whittled down. She finally moved to Cynthia and Marks Sellwood area home in January of 2009 where she lived until her death, November 18th, 2009. She will always be remembered for her lively spirit and outspoken nature, her generosity and fierce love of family. She was articulate, well read and had deep seated beliefs in womens rights. She was no shrinking violet; often standing up for the very least of us and sometimes those you would least expect. She marched to the beat of her own drummer for her entire life and was fearlessly independent. She will be missed by all that knew her. Mary was preceded in death by her son Dale Laverne Pence-Milbradt and her husband Glen Andrews. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Milbradt and son-in-law Mark Eidem of Portland OR; granddaughter Daylene Marshall and husband Drew of Stevenson, WA; brother James Cockrum of Dillard OR and Cockrums sons; Robert, David and John. She has three step children and their families from her marriage with the late Glen Adrews: Don and Diane; Bill and April; Lois and Ray. A memorial service honoring her life will be held sometime after the holidays.
