Mary Miller Hudgens
Greenville, SC
Mary Christine Hudgens, 91, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 16th, 2011 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Iva, SC, she was a daughter of the late George Franklin and Elizabeth Taylor Miller.
She was a 1937 graduate of Williamston High School and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. Mary was a Registered Nurse who retired in 1974 from the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Hospital with 25 year's service. Following her retirement she worked as an Occupational nurse at Union Bleachery for six years.
Mary was a die-hard Clemson Fan who was an IPTAY supporter for over 50 years. She was known to wear her orange proudly to church on Sunday if they won and black if they lost.
She was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Cecil Hudgens, Sr. in 1992; her step-son, David C. Hudgens, Jr.; her step-daughter, Patricia H. Durham; and her brothers, Quay and Lang Miller. She is survived by her loving family, her son and daughter-in-law, James F. and Karen Thacker of Eddyville, KY; her step-daughter, Joyce H. Welch of Mauldin; her daughter-in-law, Jane Hudgens of Greer; her son-in-law, W. Frank Durham of Greenville; her sister, Edythe "Pat" Miller of Arlington, VA; her niece, Jann M. Thompson; and great-niece, Elizabeth M. Thompson both of McLean, VA; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 19, 2011 from 9:30am until 10:45am at The Mackey Mortuary with services to follow at 11:00 am with the Reverend Christine Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 2700 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611
