Mary Shutte, 87, returned home to our Lord on September 18 surrounded by her loving family. She called Oakland her home for over 55 years. Mary graduated as an RN from St. Joseph's Hospital in 1941. She married her husband, Robert "Bobby" Shutte shortly thereafter, and together they raised a family. They were married for 62 years. While she left the medical profession to raise her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she lived a life dedicated to helping others. She regularly visited Oakland Care Center in her capacity as a Eucharistic Minister. Her true ministry was to listen to all who crossed her path, whether it be an employee at the grocery store, the bank teller, or her closest friends and family. It was never about her. She was loved by all who met her. Mary is survived by her husband, Robert, her four children, Robert Jr. and his wife, Cathy, Mary Anne and her husband, Joe Stratter, Sue and her husband, Joe Leicht, and Peter and his wife Mary Jane. She was cherished by her 11 grandchildren and took joy in her 9 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, September 21 between the hours of 2 and 4, or 6 and 8 at the Oakland Memorial Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 On Thursday September 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Oakland. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery Franklin Lakes, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
