Mary Sumner, 81, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away June 16, 2009 in Portsmouth, VA.A native of Chesapeake, VA, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Josephine Szymanski, and the widow of Frank Sumner. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She is survived by her two sons, Frank Sumner and Stanley Sumner and his wife Stephanie of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Frank Sumner III of Chesapeake, VA, Shannon Lowe of Amelia, VA, Jimmy Nelms of Richmond, VA, Ashley Sumner, Kelsey Sumner and Logan Sumner, all of Virginia Beach, VA; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jo Palmer; and her son, Robert "Bobby" Sumner. A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. The burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
