Mary Theresa (OConnor) Coburn, of South Windsor, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009. Born on June 7, 1922 at Leeds House, Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland to John Francis and Ellen (Curtin) OConnor. She immigrated to the United States in 1946, sponsored by her aunt, Nora Dickson of East Hartford and worked as an inspector at the Royal Typewriter Company. Mary met the love of her life, Anthony Patrick Coburn, a young Marine having returned home after serving his country during World War II. They were married in Saint Rose Church, East Hartford by her cousin, Father Cornelius Looney. Mary became a citizen of the United States, but was always proud of her Irish heritage. An expert seamstress and knitter, she also mastered both cooking and gardening. A resident of South Windsor and parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Parish since 1963, both Mary and Anthony were volunteer drivers for the organization FISH having been recognized for 30 years of service. Mary leaves her husband, Anthony P. Coburn and four children: Maureen Burke of Amston; Michael Coburn and wife, Lorraine of South Windsor; Patricia Rovero and husband, Peter of Niantic; and Dennis Coburn of East Hampton. She also leaves four grandchildren: Laura, Paul, and Matthew Rovero, and Kathryn Coburn. Mary is survived by two sisters, Nora Batt of Fareham, Hants, England and Margaret OConnor of Glastonbury, her brother, Thomas OConnor of East Hartford, and cousins, Kevin and Maureen Barry and their family of Illane, Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland. Family and friends may gather, Monday, 9:15 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Internment will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Oakland St., Manchester. Her family will receive friends at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home Sunday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent in Marys name to the Tree of Life, c/o DeQuattro Community Cancer Center, 73-A Haynes Street, Manchester, CT 06040. The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at the DeQuattro Center for their care and kindness as well as her family physician, Dr. Michael Martin. Slan Leat
