Mrs. MaryLou A. (Manning) Oatis, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the age of 69.
She was born on August 16, 1942 in Melrose, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Connolly) Manning. Raised in Melrose, MaryLou was a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1960. She worked in various positions for different businesses over the course of her life, but was known more as a homemaker. She worked as a hairdresser, as a clerk at Miter Biter Framing Co. in Melrose, and at Verizon Wireless in Stoneham.
A proud Melrose High School graduate, she attended every reunion from the year she graduated up until last year's, M.H.S. 50th Reunion.
MaryLou was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed needlepoint, baking, cooking, and sports. She was a Red Sox season ticket holder for many years and loved the New England Patriots.
MaryLou surrounded herself with her family and friends. She was very involved with the lives of her six grandchildren and cherished the time, memories and vacations she had with her two dearly beloved sisters.
She was the devoted mother of Mark S. Laben of Wakefield, Lauren A. (Laben) Belcher and her husband Daniel of N. Smithfield, RI, John H. Oatis, III and his wife Heather of Northbridge, and Christopher J. Oatis of Melrose. Dear sister of Joan Tufts of Woburn and Ruth Manni of Wilmington. Cherished grandmother of Caroline M. Belcher, Matthew M. Belcher, Michael P. Belcher, and Mark D. Belcher, all of N. Smithfield, RI and James J. Oatis and Emily M. Oatis both of Northbridge. Wife of the late Ward S. Laben and former wife of the late John H. Oatis. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and celebrate MaryLou's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, November 30 from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday morning at 8 AM before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
