Maryann "Mona" Baltier, age 83, of Old Forge and formerly of Wilkes Barre, died Thursday morning at the Regional Hospital in Scranton. She was preceded in death on May 6th, 1985, by her husband, Al. Born in Plymouth on February 29, 1928, a leap year baby, she was the daughter of the late Anna Lipinski Flanagan and was raised by her grandmother, the late Anna Palchanis. Later moving to Wilkes Barre, she was an accomplished swimmer and diving coach. After raising three children with her beloved husband, she occasionally worked part-time in factories and restaurants, until she trained as a Nurses Aid at Wilkes Barre General Hospital, a job she was very fond of. A volunteer for the North End Little League, she was also a devoted member of Holy Saviour Roman Catholic Church, St. Andrea Bessette Parish in Wilkes Barre. Her family enjoyed many happy years of her famous spaghetti sauce, chicken soup and apple tarts. She always made her children's holidays special and full of tradition. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and listening to political news on her transistor radio. Her love was passed on through generations of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is now reunited with the love of her life, her "Marine", Al. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, neighbors and all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, daughters, Deborah Fret and husband Ed of Old Forge, and Anita Wolfe and husband Robert of Mountaintop, and son, Albert Baltier and wife Karen of Dallas; four grandchildren, Angela, Shianne, Timothy and Angelo; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Jason; sisters, Leona Keller of Malaga, New Jersey, Sandra Williams of Budd Lake, New Jersey, Pam DiCinti of Hudson, Violet Quinn of Carson City, Nevada, and Colette Wanyo of Wilkes Barre; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Armando Sallavanti, Dr. Kevin Casey and his staff, and to all the doctors who took care of Mona, and to the caring and compassionate staff in the ICU Unit of Regional Hospital. Also, thank you to Shirley Thomas, who lovingly helped care for Mona and Carol Casella who called her every night for four years. Blessing services have been scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be conducted by the Rev. Michael Kloton. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Wilkes Barre. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday morning between 8:00AM until serice time at the funeral home.
