Miss Maryland A. Nelson passed away February 4, 2012, at The Gardens At Eastside, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A lifelong resident of Greenville, she was born August 16, 1916, to the late Phillip S. Nelson and Sarah Distler Nelson. Throughout her life, she was actively involved in several family business endeavors. Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life and she was a loyal member of the Second Presbyterian Church.

Maryland was predeceased by her sister, Mamie, and brothers, Louis, Vernon, Paul and Jack. She is survived by two brothers.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jeff Edenfield and the staff at the Cancer Centers of the Carolinas, the entire staff at The Gardens at Eastside, and Andrea, Ann, Jim, Cheryl and everyone at Vista Care Hospice. There are no words to begin to express the dedication, kindness, gentle care, and love extended to Maryland, and to us, by these wonderful friends. Angels truly do exist. They have been with us every day throughout this long and difficult journey with their immeasurable love. God bless you all.
