Marylou Helen McKouen, 84, of the 1900 block of Edgewood Ave., Norfolk, VA, passed away on January 8, 2012, in her home. The 5th of 10 children, she was born and raised on a farm in Douglas, Georgia. After marrying her husband Michael in 1946, she moved to Norfolk and opened the Fox Hall Beauty Salon which she operated for many years. She was an active member of the Women's Benefit Association (WBA) and a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was passionate about her hobbies which included golf, bingo, cooking, gardening and fishing. In her youth she was a singer in a country band and she achieved a life-long goal of learning to play the steel guitar in the last years of her life. She was a warm and loving person who loved to entertain her friends and family with stories of her early years in Georgia. Mrs. McKouen is survived by her daughter, Michele Baskette and her son-in-law, Hugh, three grandchildren, Angela, Nicole and Brockton Baskette, and her dear friend Sissy Furqueron, all of Norfolk, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Estelle Heath and her brother, Clayton Harrell, both of Georgia. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael after 63 years of marriage. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 155 W. Government Ave., Norfolk with Fr. Daniel Beamon officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning one hour prior to the service. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
