Matthew Martin Sambrailo, of Stockton, CA passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2011, surrounded by his family. Matt was born in Stockton on January 8, 1924, graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1942, and began working at Stockton Field as a crashsite fireman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and began his career with the Stockton Fire Department in 1946. During his 31 year fire service, Matt served as the union president, and promoted to Captain. Matt participated in the opening of Company 4's (his neighborhood fire station) as the B Shift truck captain, and enjoyed this position until his retirement in 1977. An avid fisherman, Matt soon opened Mudville Matt's Rods and Reels where he looked forward to daily visits from friends and family for coffee and "fish stories". Matt is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Rembold Sambrailo; his daughter, Sandra Sambrailo-Elliott; son, Matt Sambrailo and his three grandsons; Justin, Thomas, and Drew Elliott. With a heart as big as his hands he will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA
