Mattie Eveline Sawyer "Big Mama" Morgan, 88, of the 1100 block of Inland Road, Chesapeake, VA, passed away December 14, 2010, in a local hospital. A native of Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Martha Sawyer, and the widow of Joseph M. Morgan, Sr. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She is survived by her three daughters, Dolores E. Dilday and her husband Daniel of The Villages, FL, Phyllis M. Richardson and her husband Danny of Chesapeake, VA and Susan M. Phillips and her husband William of Chesapeake, VA; two sons, Timothy H. Morgan and wife Linda of Bellvue, NE and Michael B. Morgan and wife Cornelia of Chesapeake, VA; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph M. Morgan, Jr. A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Chesapeake Humane Society, 123 N. Battlefield Blvd., Suite D, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
