Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandma
Maureen Peck Badger passed away at her home December 30, 2010 at age 91. She was born Nov. 28, 1919 to Dessie Guest Peck and Clyde H. Peck in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Salt Lake schools and was an athletic child, participating in softball and swimming. She married Frank Kilpack in 1936 and was later divorced. She married Karl W. Badger on Sep. 3, 1949. They made their home in Holladay and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Maureen was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She cared for her ailing father for many years. Her family meant everything to her and she expressed her devotion in many ways by being an excellent cook and seamstress, keeping an immaculate home, and most of all, by always being ready to lend an empathetic ear if you needed to talk. She had the gift of being an exceptional listener and put this gift to great use when she became involved with the Al-Anon organization. She educated herself in understanding chemical dependency and travelled throughout the state attending seminars and giving lectures to young people. In this organization, Maureen met many true and sincere friends, who she shared many good times with. Maureen had a spirit of adventure and loved to travel with her family. In 1996-97, she travelled to Europe with her daughters and granddaughters. She was able to see them sing in several historic cathedrals and she cherished this opportunity. She enjoyed visiting the British Isles and learning about her ancestry. She loved all things Scottish and Irish. Maureen felt a great sense of pride in her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and was always eager to lend her support. She valued family time above all other things. We will always remember sitting at the kitchen table with Mom having a glass of her freshly brewed iced tea, discussing our feelings and what was happening in the world. Mom had a keen interest in politics and current events and was an avid newspaper reader. She was a woman of great style. She loved fashion, and always took great care with her appearance and presented herself with impeccable taste. She greatly enjoyed the simple things in life - going to lunch, shopping for a new outfit or watching a good baseball game. Maureen was a compassionate and accepting person who never hesitated to help someone in need. She will be sorely missed as our guiding light. We are glad she has been released from her earthly suffering and pain. Her spirit and guidance will live in our hearts forever. Maureen is survived by her husband, Karl, her children, Shereen Kilpack Campbell, Robert Kilpack, Vincent Badger, Ceselie Badger Goodwin (Lewis), 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Larry Kilpack, brother Kelton Peck, sisters Afton Peck Hansen, Ila Peck Jarvis, and son-in-law James Campbell. Friends and family may call at the Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary at 4670 South Highland Drive on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 11-12, after which a brief service will follow. Interment Elysian Burial Gardens – 1075 East 4580 South. The family wishes to thank all who helped our mom, particularly the caregivers of At-Home Personal Care and Heartwood Hospice. Thank you Lynda Goble and Kim Marks for your special sensitivity and caring. Now it is our turn to carry your good works forward in all we do, feeling your spirit from the light of every star. Mom, we will love you always.
