Maurice Brewer, age 90, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2012 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Graveside Funeral Services will be arranged through Smith's Mortuary in Charleston, Arkansas and will take place at the Garden of Memories Cemetery there. Maurice was born on the Fourth of July in 1921 in Charleston, the son of Roy and Oma Brewer and the brother of Harold Brewer and Colleene Brewer-Looney of Charleston. Maurice grew up in Charleston and in 1939 joined the Army. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and retired from the Air Force in 1966 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After his retirement, he successfully pursued a second career in sales and retired for good in 1990. During his lifetime, he supported numerous charitable causes and was a member of many military organizations and was a lifelong member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. During his military career, Maurice served as a transport, glider, and medium bomber pilot and supported early atomic tests in Nevada. He earned the distinction of performing the first aerial release and pickup of a glider north of the Arctic Circle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sachi. He is survived by three stepchildren, three stepgrandchildren, and three nieces.
