Max Edgar Watts, 72, of Woodlawn, Arkansas, died on May 22, 2012. Max was a lifelong educator and devoted himself to enriching the educational experience of children. Max served as Superintendent of Gillett and Woodlawn schools for a combined 40 years.
After attending public schools in Pleasant Plains, Max earned his Bachelor of Agriculture and Master of Education from Arkansas State University. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Woodlawn. Max was a highly respected teacher and a loving husband and father.
Max was also an avid "picker". Max was famous for collecting all manner of appliances, small engines and equipment that would provide him endless hours of enjoyment as he breathed life back into previously under-appreciated items.
Max was born in Batesville, Arkansas, on September 11, 1939, to Willis Edgar Watts and Ella Hayes Watts. Max is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Bass Watts and three children, Deborah Watts Bivens and Max Todd Watts, both of Woodlawn and David Watts (Samantha Gaston) of Little Rock, three grandchildren, Brandon Bivens, Logan Watts and Tristan Watts, sister Marguerite Southerland of Ash Flat and brother Richard "Dick" Watts of Temple, TX.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Gary Wiles officiating. Interment will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Friday, immediately following the service.
