Maybelle Lama Pinson May 7, 1926 to February 3, 2013 – was the 8th daughter of 13 children born to Josephine and John Lama. Her daughter Taffy Lloyd and son Duane Pinson survived her as do her grandchildren, to whom she was known as "Gam"; Dawn, Christopher, Jon, Christine and Carrie, and her 6 great-grandchildren; who called her "Gi-Gi"; her brother John Duane and many nieces and nephews.

Maybelle had a very inquisitive mind which probably contributed to her involvement in so many fields of endeavor besides her devotion to dance and the theatre both as a performer and audience member.

Maybelle attended the University of Rochester Eastham School of Music, as a ballet and piano pupil, where she became Assistant Ballet Master and performed as soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dr. Howard Hanson, Sir Thomas Beecham, Jose Iturbi, and Guy Fraser Harrison. Her performances extended to Broadway, Carnegie Hall, touring musical and opera companies. She also appeared in film, as a runway model and a photographic model in New York.

Choreographically her works were seen in Rochester, New York and in Marin County. Performances included Dido and Aeneas, The Bartered Bride, Carousel, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, and in the annual performances of her pupils. Her Choreography for Sacred Dance was presented at St. Catherine's Church celebrations of Easter and Christmas liturgies. She and her adult Sacred Dance Choir- "The Clay Vessels" presented at the V.A. Center in Menlo Park and in concert at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco.

Expanding her theory that "dancers can do anything" Maybelle was Charter President of the Women's Auxiliary of Sleepy Hollow Homeowners Assn. in Marin, President of Junior Theater in Sleepy Hollow, Vice-President of Vallombrosa (a retreat volunteer Assn.), and volunteer with Ombudsmen Services. With the same theory Maybelle arranged pilgrimages to Medjugorje, Italy, Oberammergau, Venezuela and Mexico as well as individual travel.

Her very inquisitive mind and wide range of interests included establishing "Malam Designs" with her sister Marie, focusing on interior design.

Maybelle ended her active teaching career at age 86, taking as usual every class she taught. She said she would like her pupils to know how much they blessed her over the years as she taught and came to know them.

Friends are invited to the Memorial Rosary and Mass at 10:00AM on February 16, 2013 at St. Catherine's Church, 1310 Bayswater Ave., Burlingame. A gathering will follow the Mass at the Church Hall.
