Maynard Marchand, age 83, of Sturgis, MI passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Sturgis Hospital following a short illness. He was born November 16, 1926 in LaGrange, IN a son of the late Charley and Retha (Fleck) Marchand. On July 14, 1947 in Angola, IN he married Martha Della Miller. She preceded him in death June 29, 1996. Maynard has been a resident of Sturgis most of his life, living his earlier years in LaGrange, IN. He had been employed by the Harter Corporation in Sturgis for 46 years before retiring and enjoyed fishing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. Surviving are 2 sons: Michael (Diane) Marchand of Sturgis, MI and Robert (Larisa) Marchand of Sterling Heights, MI; 1 Daughter: Pamela (Bud) Conley of Finley, MI; 5 grandchildren: Kenneth, Casey, Shaun, Michael, and Marc Marchand; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Friday, at the Hackman Family Funeral Home – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091 (269) 651-2331. Services celebrating the life of Maynard Marchand will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, at the funeral home with The Rev. George Cleverley, officiating. Interment and graveside services will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355. The family suggests memorial donation be directed to the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post, 264 W. Fawn River Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
