Melba H. Miller, age 80, of Scranton entered into enternal rest on August 9th, 2011 under the care of Community Medical Center's VNA Hospice Unit in Scranton. She was preceded in death on December 13, 1973, by her husband, Tom H. Miller. Born in Scranton on November 8, 1930, daughter of the late Edward and Helen Dershmier Hughes, Melba was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a mortgage processor for Total Mortgage Financial, Inc., in Dickson City. She was a longtime member of the Providence United Methodist Church in North Scranton and was also involved with the Wesylan Society of Methodist Churches. A gardener who loved her rosebushes, she also enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing. Above all, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Her oldest grandson Trevor affectionately nicknamed her "Grandma Doll", a nickname that everyone came to know her by. She will certainly be missed. Surviving are two children, Bruce A. Miller and wife Annette of Melbourne, Florida; Cheryl Vladika of Old Forge; a sister, Doris Keene of Scranton; four grandchildren, Trevor, Ian and Trey Miller and Kiley Vladika; three great-grandchildren, Jaylin, Kade and Keiah, and several nieces and nephews. Her family would like thank the staff of VNA Hospice Unit and Dr. Michael Barrett and his staff for all of the care and compassion they've shown them throughout Melba's illness. Funeral services, to be conducted by the Rev. Ginger Daubenhouser of the Trinity Baptist Church, will be held on Thursday at 10:00AM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, West Scranton. Interment will follow in Abington Hills Cemetery, Clarks Summit. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
