Melba L. Reese, age 85, of 500 Walkerton Trail, Walkerton, Indiana, passed away at 10:20 a.m., Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton. Melba was born on September 7, 1925, in Lowland, North Carolina, to James and Mattie (Lewis) Lupton. Melba became the bride of Robert Reese on July 26, 1946, in a ceremony that took place in Norfolk, Virginia. Robert passed away on July 8, 1998. Robert and Melba moved to Tyner, Indiana, in October of 1951. Robert and Melba were the co-owners of the Tyner Elevator, where Melba was the bookkeeper. Melba served as the Marshall County Recorder for eight years, was a member of the Marshall County Council for four years, served on the Marshall County Republican Women's Committee, was the Drainage Board Secretary, was a member of the board of the Marshall County Community Foundation, and also a member of the Tyner United Methodist Church. Melba is survived by her daughter, Patty (Tim) Grace of Plymouth, Indiana; her sons, Robert "Gene" (Marsha) Reese of Walkerton; and Richard (Cathy) Reese of Walkerton; eight grandchildren, Scott (Ingrid) Reese, Jennifer (Jeff deceased) Cygert, Ryan (Melody) Reese, Adam (Kristy) Reese, Diane (Nick) Brusius, Eric Reese, Jessica (David) Sills and Erin (Howard) Berkeypile; ten great-grandchildren; and her brother Myron Lupton of Norfolk, Virginia. Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; their son, James William Reese, who passed away in 1954; one sister; and three brothers. Memorials may be made to the: Melba L.
