Funeral Mass for Melissa Kay Canale, 41, of Lubbock will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Monsignor James O’Connor officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-7p.m., Sunday at Sanders Funeral Home with a Rosary service following at 7.p.m at Sanders Memorial Chapel.

She went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 2, 2010.

Melissa was born March 24, 1969 in Lubbock, TX to James and Sherry Grusendorf. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1987. She held bachelors and masters degrees from both Texas Tech and Wayland Baptist. She married David Patrick Canale on February 26, 1994, and together they raised two beautiful children.

She began her professional career as a nutritionist with South Plains Community Action. She entered the field of education, and taught at Christ the King, Frenship ISD, and Lubbock ISD schools. She served as an intern Assistant Principal at Lubbock High and as an Assistant Principal at Hutchison and Atkins Middle Schools. She was an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where she taught Sunday School.

She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and friend whose main concern was her family. She had a loving and caring heart for all in need and her unselfish gift of her body to LifeGift so that others may have a better chance at life has made her family so proud.

Loved ones include her husband David; her wonderful children Ford and Ella; her parents James and Sherry; brother, Greg Grusendorf and wife, Melanie; grandmother, Jamie Lynch; in-laws, Randy and Cindy Canale; Mike and Angie Canale; Shawn and Laurie Canale; loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Memorial donations are suggested to Catholic Family Service, Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Lubbock Challenger Little League or a charity of your choice.
