On Saturday, July 30, 2011 Melissa DeRemer passed away suddenly from a pulmonary embolism in St. Augustine, Florida. Melissa was 26 years old with a beautiful smile and a good outlook on life. She always cared for others and always put their needs in front of her own. Born in Dallas on July 16, 1985, the daughter of James and Sandra Boyd DeRemer, Melissa attended Gate of Heaven School before graduating from Bishop Hoban High School, Class of 2004. While majoring in Criminal Justice at Penn State University, she was very active in many clubs and activities. Until recently she worked in the Security department for Mohegan Sun Casino in Plains. She will be sadly missed by all but her memories will live in our hearts forever. Surviving are her siblings, James, Breanne, Ryan and Eric DeRemer, all of St. Augustine; a maternal grandmother, Jean Callahan Boyd of Dallas; and an uncle, Douglas Boyd and wife Karen of Wyoming. She was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, Archibald Boyd; and paternal grandparents, James and Phyllis May DeRemer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00AM in the Basilica of St. Augustine with interment to follow in Craig Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may pay their respects to the family locally on Saturday between 11-1:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Memorial services are scheduled to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Melissa's name to the DeRemer Family Education Fund (c/o 945 Registry Blvd., Unit 210, St. Augustine, FL, 32092).
