Mrs. Melmore N. Reed, 87, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away on Saturday November 6, 2010 at Settlers House in La Porte, IN. She was born December 31, 1922 in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Norman Miller and Linda (Rinker) Miller. Melmore was a life-long resident of the LaPorte area. Melmore was a homemaker and a sales clerk for J. C. Penney's for six years in Michigan City, IN. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and a circle of the church. Melmore enjoyed music, loved rose gardening and especially loved her two poodles, Micky and Buffy. On September 2, 1949, in Michigan City, IN, she married Maurice Reed who preceded her in death September 26, 2004. She is survived by his two sisters-in-law - Annabelle Miller of Michigan City, IN, Dorothy Masek of Portage, MI; a niece - Lynn (Darin) Ray of Michigan City, IN; three nephews - Steven (Cynthia) Miller of Michigan City, IN, Michael Miller of Michigan City, IN, Ronald (Arlene) Masek of Portage, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Melmore was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Norval Miller, and one nephew, Dennis Masek. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 9:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Helen Nusbaum, officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's United Church of Christ 1101 Lincolnway, LaPorte, IN. 46350.
