Melva Jean Darr was born on November 18, 1930, in Tullahoma,Tennessee.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Johnson and husband Harry, Susan
Hannaford and husband Dale, and her grandson, Travis Long, wife Ashley and
great-granddaugher Madison. She is also survived by two sisters, Janelle
Frazier and Lois Brewer of Tennessee, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lively "Skip" Darr Jr., her son,
Don Long and her grandson, Brent Johnson. She retired from AT&T/Lucent
in 1990 and volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers, Mesquite Social Services
and at West Mesquite Baptist Church, where she was a long-time member. She
enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Other interests included
her family and friends, reading, gardening, as well as her constant companions,
Shelties named Sammy and Rio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial
contributions to the SPCA, West Mesquite Baptist Church or Heart-to-Heart Hospice.
A memorial service will take place at Noon on Monday, January 9, 2012, at Anderson
Clayton Bros. Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, Texas 75149,
following a private burial.
