Melvin Davis
April 19, 1949-December 9, 2011

Mr. Davis, 62, of Bowling Green, KY died Friday morning in Huntsville, Al. He was a US Army Veteran of Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart. He was the Vice president for the UAW #2164 in Bowling Green, KY.

He is survived by his three daughters- Nicole Smith and husband William, Katie Bates and husband Carlos and Melba Davis; one son Towanga Dyson and his wife Michelle; brothers- Tim Lewis, Michael Lewis, Robert Lewis Jr. and Julian Lewis; sisters- Beverly Smith, Delores McVay, Theresa Dilworth and Sandra Thorpes and six grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be Saturday at 1:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to service. The interment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

On behalf of the hundreds of Melvin's friends and co-workers, our heart and prayers go with him and his family.

Few people were as universally well-liked as Melvin Davis. He never met a stranger. You couldn't be around Melvin long without hearing him talk about his family, his friends, his fellow Veterans, and his union brothers and sisters. He was the first to make you smile in the morning and the last to make you laugh on leaving work.

Melvin...this is such a shock to us. I knew when you didn't call me back something was not right. Because you always called us to say something. Our love for you is UNCONDITIONAL and we will always love you.
Thank you for always giving us strength and always being positive during your our personal struggle.We know you are sitting there watching us and that makes us feel good.
Melba,Katie,and Nicole please take comfort in knowing your daddy was a true blessing to us and everyone who knew him. And above all a MAN OF GOD.

My story of Mr Melvin Davis. Well it was about 18 years ok when I married his daughter Nikki. He was not to happy at the time about this marriage but in time we had a good relationship. When Melvin got very sick and he moved to our house so Nikki could take care of her Daddy. Melvin would ask for me every morning. We would cut up talking noise. When Melvin got really sick and went into the hospital his Nikki did not leave is side. She provided him with the best medical care and I saw how proud Melvin was of his daughter. Melvin pass Dec 9, 2011 with Nikki by his side holding his hand and telling him that she loved him. It was the hardest thing for me to say goodbye. Melvin you will be missed. My husband (Bob) and I worked with Melvin at the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, KY. I worked with him in water test. There were 4 of us in water test Carl, Nellie, Melvin and me. We had to get on Melvin because he was on the phone a lot and it was his turn to do a car. One time he was on his cell phone when he got another phone call on the phone in our area. That was so funny, he had the cell phone on one ear and the inside phone on the other. You couldn't get mad at him. I was the one who nicked named him Mel-Baby. He called me one time on his way to St Louis, Mo. He told me then he had cancer and was taking treatment. He loved his kids... READ MORE →
