Melvin G. Cook, 80, of Eaton passed away September 9th at Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit after a short battle with cancer. Mr. Cook was born in Fairfield, Nebraska to Glenn R. and Agnes E. (Brym) Cook on December 22, 1928. He was raised in Deweese, Nebraska and attended schools in Clay County, NE and Greeley, CO. After moving to Colorado he began working for Continental Airlines and Coca-Cola. On October 17, 1948 he married the love of his life, Bennetta “Joyce” Nix. He farmed near Eaton and then worked for Agland until his retirement. Mr. Cook was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities. He enjoyed watching the Rockies and the Broncos as well as NCAA Basketball. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Lanny and Barbara Cook of Eaton and Ron and Randee Cook of Greeley; two daughters and their husbands, Lori Adams and husband Jim of Eaton and LouAnne Hettinger and husband Steve of Evans; five grandchildren, Brecken Cook, Brad Cook, Brian Cook and fiancé Amanda Jacks, Breven Hettinger, Jarrett and Catelyn Adams, a great-granddaughter Abbie Anthony and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his parents and two brothers, Don and Gordon Cook. Visitation will be at the Eaton Evangelical Free Church on Sunday from 5-7 pm. Burial will take place at the Eaton Cemetery at 9:30 am Tuesday followed by the celebration of Mel’s life at 11 am Tuesday at the Eaton Evangelical Free Church. Memorial gifts may be made to the Eaton Evangelical Free Church in care of Allnutt Funeral Service 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
