Melvin Jacobs Freebairn
1928 – 2010

Melvin Jacobs Freebairn passed away Oct. 15, 2010 at his home in Sandy, Utah having been surrounded by his loving family. Mel was born Feb. 8, 1928 in Washington D.C. to Melvin Freebairn and Marian Louise Jacobs. He was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 1, 1954 to his sweetheart, Jacquelyn Ann Tichenor.
Mel attended the University of Utah where he was literally a “Running Ute” on the university track team. Mel graduated in 1955 with his pharmacy degree. He was “The Friendly Pharmacist” for 40 years. Mel was part owner of Hyland Pharmacy and then practiced with Skaggs Drug.
His Nat’l Guard Unit, the 115th Engineer Combat Battalion, was called up to serve in 1951. He then served with the 36th Engineer Combat Group in Korea.
Mel was an avid Scouter for many years always encouraging boys to reach their full potential. He was a Hunter Safety Instructor and a lifetime member of the NRA.
Mel was an active member of the LDS church serving gladly in many capacities.
He is survived by his loving wife Jackie, his sons, Scott (Doris), Kevin (Lynn), Todd (Mechele), Eric (Nancy), Dana (Carol) Santa Clarita, CA., a daughter Christie Perry (Keith) and 19 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers J. Richard Freebairn (Suzette) CA and J. Michael Freebairn (Ardith) NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Peruvian Park Ward (1500 E. 8600 South Sandy, Utah 84093). A viewing will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary (3115 E. 7800 So., Cottonwood Heights, 84121) from 6-8pm, and starting at 9:45am before funeral services on Saturday. Interment will be at the Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mel to your local Boy Scout council.
