Parkway Funeral Service
Mercedes (Alm) Plante, 70, was called home to her Savior on Feb 5, 2011 after a long valiant battle with cancer. She passed away at St. Alexius Medical Center surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, February 10, at Church of Corpus Christi Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, Wednesday, February 9, from 2:00 - 8:00 pm with a vigil service at 6:00 pm. Mercedes was born on March 10, 1940 to Marion and Hilda Alm. She grew up and attended school in Regan, ND. In 1952 the family moved to Bismarck where she graduated from Bismarck High School in 1958. In 1960, Mercedes met the love of her life, Gary Plante, and they were married May 13, 1961. During their nearly 50 years of marriage they were blessed with four wonderful children and ten grandchildren. Her faith and family is what she held most dearly in her life. Mercedes spent most of her career as the office manager and co-owner with her husband in various businesses: Plantes Parlor of Beauty, Designers Fabric Center, Years Gone By and Plantes Painting and Drywall. She also partnered with Jean Willer in the Hodge Podge gift store and worked several years for the ND State Tax Department. Merc had a great eye for detail and a wonderful talent in interior decorating, which was displayed in the many homes that they built. She loved entertaining and filled the table with beautifully displayed gourmet foods. Christmas Eve at her house was something out of a magazine and is a memory that her family will always cherish. Other activities she enjoyed included teaching religious education at Corpus Christi, sewing, cooking, bowling and playing Bunco. She is survived by her husband Gary Plante; her mother Hilda Alm; four children: Parnel (Mary) Plante, Bismarck, ND, Parker (Kathy) Plante, Boston, MA, Apryl (Mike) Ghents, Rapid City, SD, and Anjyl (Monte) Babeck, Bismarck, ND; ten grandchildren: Ashley (Mike), Jessica, Michael, Courtney, Tyler, Nicolas, Hunter, Cody, KenaDee and Brooklynn; and one sister Valerie (Jerry) Delzer. Mercedes was preceded in death by her father Marion Alm and her brother Arlen Alm. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Gods Child Project at 721 Memorial Highway, Bismarck, ND 58504.
