Funeral services for Mervin Frazier, 77, of Dupree, will be Monday, Aug. 27 at 10:00 AM, MDT, at the Multipurpose Building, Dupree, with Rev. Norman Blue Coat officiating. Music was provided by Sisters In Harmony, Cheeto & John Mestes, Harvey Hawk Eagle, Byron & Toni Buffalo, Daryl Whipple and Luta Drum Group. A meal follows with burial at 3:00PM at Black Hills National, Sturgis. Casketbearers were Jake Frazier, Tom Old Bull, Dondi Frazier, Servando Rivera, JOhn Mestes, Carl Cadotte, Rocky Frazier and John Bowker. Please meet at the Dupree 2-mile Jct. Sunday to process to the Multipurporse Building for wake services beginning at 7:00PM. Mervin entered the spirit world August 17, 2012 in Rapid City. Mervin Vincent Frazier was born to Leonard "Sam"and Lucille (Fast Horse) Frazier on February 23, 1935 at Old Cheyenne Agency, South Dakota. Mervin grew up around Timber Lake. He was a bareback rider riding in local rodeos. He was also a good musician playing the guitar, mandolin and the fiddle. He played with "The West River Country Band" with Cheeto, Jim & Eddie Gunderson. They played for dances all over South Dakota. He also played with the "Good Ole Boys" in Rapid City. Mervin was also a professional pool player; he and his son John played in a league in Rapid City and went to Las Vegas for a tournament, taking 6th place and beating a team from France.
Mervin joined the Air Force after high school and was a jet mechanic stationed at Parks, AFB in California, and in Okinawa, Japan. He received an honorable discharge in February 1957.
He worked in various places as a diesel mechanic, at Black Thunder Coal Mine in Wyoming and as a machinist in Los Angeles, Ca. This is where he met the love of his life, Ernestine White Feather. They were married August 4, 1967 in Dupree, SD by Rev. Philip Allen. To this union three children were born, Dawn Marie, Lynn Ione and John Michael.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine; children, six grandchildren, Joseph Burleigh Bowker, Joshua Brady Bowker, Malachi Daniel, Honey Alexa and Keturah Monet Frazier, Mervin Jesse Young Bird and Aliah Maliza Bowker; one Hunka son, Bryce Little Thunder; one sister, Alta Hernandez of Los Angeles, CA and one brother, Harold Frazier of White Horse, SD.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Frazier, mother Lucille Frazier; two sisters, Jessie Romero, Ione Frazier; two brothers, Dutch and Tuffy Frazier; one niece, Lisa (Hernandez) Mejia and one nephew, Sam Frazier.
