Dr. Michael "Mike" David Marcson, 68, of Salisbury died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his home. Born in State College, PA he was the son of the late Simon Marcson and Florence Bernstein Marcson of Princeton, NJ.
Mike graduated with a B.A. from Brown University with honors and with a PhD in history from Princeton University. He was fluent in French and spent several years living in France and Africa for his PhD research. His dissertation on European-African interaction in the pre-colonial period is still regularly cited by historians. He was a former history professor at Salisbury State College, now Salisbury University.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Marcson of Washington, D.C.; former wife, Ursula M. Ehrhardt of Salisbury; brother, Tony Marcson and his wife, Cathy of LaPorte, PA; and two nephews, John and Dan Marcson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mike to the Wicomico County Public Library, 122 S. Division St., Salisbury, Md. 21801.
