Michael John Skordos 56 of Fort Wayne passed away unexpectedly at home on December 3, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Jeanine (Ehinger), daughters Kathryn , Patricia, and Morgan, sons Mikhail, Jonathon, Christian, and Sebastian and grandchildren Caitlin, Aidian and Nathan all at home, and two sisters, Joanrita (Jerry) Taube of Garrett, and Molly (John) Oury of Avilla. He was preceded in death by wife Kathryn A. (Ehinger)Skordos, parents George and Joan Skordos, father in law Paul Ehinger, sister Susie Beckstedt and brother Nicholas Skordos. Mike was a lifelong resident of Allen County. He was a 1972 graduate of North Side High School. He was employed at Culligan Water Systems for over 20 years. He was very active at Bishop Luers High School in the Athletic Department. Best known at Luers for his jokes and the train horn at the football games. His favorite past times included collecting salt and pepper shakers, rooting for Hoosier basketball and Irish football and “Da Bears”. Mike always enjoyed a good board game of Monopoly, Risk and Scrabble with his kids in which he would always manage to come up more money to buy properties or dare his children to challenge any word he played on the Scrabble board or in Risk in which he would con you into giving up your countries so he could dominate the world. Mike was always up for a game of basketball after dinner in the summer or hitting the baseball and letting us kids chase after it. He enjoyed listening to The Statler Brothers, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and many more and he enjoyed the jokes by Bill Engvall, Jeff Foxworthy as he could relate their stories to his own life. He enjoyed shows such as “Andy Griffith”, “The Statler Brothers Show”, “Bonanza”, and of course the Bishop Luers Athletics, Chicago Bears, Hoosier Basketball and Irish Football. Favorite memories include putting up the Christmas tree with his children with Christmas music blasting in the background or just waking up to his music in the morning on Thanksgiving while getting the turkey and house ready for family. Mike always did his best to be at all of his children’s school activities. Mike was an avid historian focusing on World War II and was always full of little facts about anything and everything. He could always give the answer on “Jeopardy” before the clue was finished being read. Many athletes looked forward to Mike being their driver to away events because he was always quick with a joke or a good story to tell. As concession stand manager for Luers, Mike was always able to find someone to help cover an open spot and no one could ever say no to his charming voice. Mike had many other “kids” within the Luers family and if he didn’t pick on you then you knew something was wrong. Mike was proud of all of his adopted students and took pride in repainting the Kneeling Knight at Luersfield and painted “Luers Spirit” on the side of one of his barns. Mass of Christian Burial at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4500 South Fairfield Ave. at 1pm on Tuesday, December 7 with calling one hour prior to service. Visitation is Monday, December 6, from 2-5 pm and 7-9pm with Rosary at 4:30pm at D.O. Mccomb and Sons Foster Park, 6301 Fairfield Ave. Burial at Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Bishop Luers High School Tuition Assistance Fund. To sign the online guest book, go to www.mccombandsons.com.
