Michael Popovich, 81, of Weirton died unexpectedly on Friday January 20, 2012, at his home. Born on September 24, 1920 in Ginger Hill, PA, Michael was a son of the late Simeon and Anastasia Gresko Popovich, He was also preceded in death by his four brothers, Harry, John, Paul, and Daniel Popovich. Michael was the Salutatorian of Snowden High School and graduated with honors from Ohio University School of Pharmacy. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Medics on the Alaskan Island known as Attuo from 1952-1954. He started his pharmacy career in Steubenville OH, with the Gray Drugstore and the Welsh Drugstore. In 1964 Michael purchased Noonan's Drugstore in Toronto, OH, and changed the name to Mike's Rexall. He owned and operated the pharmacy for forty three years until his retirement in 2000. Mike was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, AHEPA Lodge, and the Hancock Senior Citizens. He enjoyed training horses, traveling with the Hancock County Seniors, and decorating the Church at Easter. Most of all he loved spending time with his granddaughter. He will always be remembered for his generosity, helping others, and his kind nature. He is survived by his wife, of 40 years, Mary Mousadis Popovich, their son, Christopher Michael (Malina) Popovich of Weirton; a granddaughter, Allura Anastasia Popovich; a sister, Mary (Paul) Petro of Donora, PA; brother in laws, Jim (Effie) Mousadis, Pete (Toni) Mousadis; sister in law, Claudette Frangopoulos; twelve godchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Sunday and 3-8 PM Monday at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 West Street Weirton. Additional visitation will be held at the church 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM on Tuesday. Reverend Father Frank A. Milanese will preside. Interment will follow Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad. AHEPA Services will be conducted 7 PM Monday in the Church followed by the Trisagion Service at 7:30 PM.
